The TVA Green Switch program is a way for your business to take part in the green energy movement. The Green Switch program sells “blocks” of green energy. But the block isn’t actually electricity. Rather, it represents a commitment from TVA that 200 kilowatt-hours of electricity is produced by renewable resources. Each block costs $2.00. So, for a business using 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month, to insure that 100% of their energy was created using renewable resources, the business could pay an additional $10 on their bill (1,000 kWh / 200 kWh per block = 5 Green Switch blocks x $2 per block = $10). However, the actual number of blocks purchased is completely up to the business. Once the number of blocks to be purchased is determined, the amount is added onto your monthly HES electric bill. There is no obligation, so participation in Green Switch can be cancelled at any time.
